The OHS map exploration game uses three different historical maps to tell stories about Oregon. Users are presented with a series of multiple choice questions, and are given a map to investigate to help solve the questions. Hidden through the map are secret additional clues and stories. Each map is a high resolution scan of an actual historical map that is a relic from its time. I worked on the software, and helped influence the design and UX of the game while working as a Creative Engineer at Upswell in Portland Oregon. Their write-up of this project can be found here.
The studio is a collection of art “minigames” made for the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk Virginia. Three kiosks rotate through games designed to make art a fun, carefree, and unpretentious experience. In “Drawing Studio” players are given a piece of art, and a collection of tools to draw on the art with. In “Art with parts” players are given a backdrop, and then a pile of collage parts taken from the museum’s collection which they can drag and drop. Everything is done with simple direct touches, so that it is easy to learn for anyone. The three kiosks are networked, and at the end of each game each station’s art is projected on the large screens near the kiosk, so players can see what their friends made. I developed the software and game loop as a Creative Engineer at Upswell in Portland Oregon. You can read their write-up here.
The Colorscape is a multi user interactive art installation at the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk Virginia. Visitors can paint on the floor with their movements and gestures, and their movements effect a generative soundtrack. Delightful unique interactions emerge from users using their body in new ways in conjunction with other visitors.
An Intel RealSense powers the experience, with computer vision algorithms picking up user’s movements. Their silloutte is then drawn into a GPGPU effect where their “paint” is splashed and mixed with the other colors in the system.
I developed the software and collaborated on the design and installation while working as a Creative Engineer at Upswell in Portland Oregon. Their write up of the project can be found here.
